Jules Olitski, a painter, sculptor and printmaker was a pioneer in the abstract movement known
as Formalism, emphasizing compositional elements such as color, line, shape, and texture
rather than iconography or historical and social content. Founded in 2016, the foundation holds
a significant body of the Artist’s work and papers.
It is the Mission of the Jules Olitski Art Foundation to further the legacy of Jules Olitski, to
encourage knowledge and appreciation of the body of art he created and his contribution to the
art world. The purpose of the Foundation is to undertake a catalogue raisonné of the work of Jules Olitski,
distribute his artwork as appropriate to museums and institutions, provide access to his artwork and papers to scholars,
and to provide support to artists and arts education entities with any profits gained.
